Motorcyclist Dead after Hitting Utility Pole

Terre Haute, IN (June 7, 2022) - A person was killed in a motorcycle accident early Tuesday morning, according to the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office.
 


At 4:01 a.m., deputies were dispatched to the 3600 block of Old Paris Road in western Vigo County in response to a crash involving a motorcycle.



The investigation revealed that the driver of the motorcycle left the road and struck a utility pole. The driver, Connie Hylman of West Terre Haute, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Motorcyclist Killed in Front of Dana Plant

Fort Wayne, IN (June 7, 2022) - A motorcyclist was killed in a crash along West State Boulevard Monday morning. Police and medics were called just before 7:00 a.m. to the 2100 block of West State Boulevard, in front of the Dana Corporation plant, on reports of an crash with injuries involving a motorcycle.

First responders arrived to find a man down in the roadway. Officers and medics attempted life-saving measures, and the motorcyclist was taken to a local hospital, where he ultimately died.
 


He was identified later Monday as 31-year-old Brian K. Jewell of Fort Wayne. The Allen County Coroner’s Office said Jewell died of multiple blunt force injuries.

Police said in a news release that the motorcycle was headed west on State when he swerved to avoid an eastbound SUV that was turning into a Dana lot. In the process of swerving, the motorcycle grazed the rear corner of the SUV then side-swiped an eastbound sedan, and he was thrown from the motorcycle.



The driver of the SUV was not hurt, but the driver of the sedan suffered minor injuries to her arms, police said. State Boulevard was closed while police investigated the crash.

Two Motorcyclist Airlifted after Crash

Milan, IN (June 6, 2022) - Two people were airlifted from a collision involving a car and a motorcycle on State Road 350 in Milan just before 4 pm Saturday.

The Ripley County Sheriff’s Office says a 2008 Buick passenger car driven by a 16-year-old from Milan was eastbound on State Road 350 and turned left in front of a westbound 2013 Harley Davidson motorcycle.
 


The driver of the motorcycle, 46-year-old Jerry Pottorf, and his passenger, 42-year-old Jenny Gronostaj, were both ejected from the bike and flown to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Pottorf and Gronostaj are from Cincinnati and the teen driving the car was not injured. The crash remains under investigation by the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office.



The Sheriff’s Office received assistance at the scene were the Milan Fire Department, Ripley County EMS, Ripley County Medic, and Indiana State Police.

Woman Killed in Motorcycle Crash

Huntington, IN (June 1, 2022) - A motorcycle crash left one person dead and sent another to a hospital on Monday evening, according to the Huntington County Sheriff’s Department.

Around 4:55 p.m., two people riding a Harley Davidson Electra Glide were traveling west on CR 1100 N when the driver of the motorcycle braked too hard at a 4-way intersection of CR 1100 N and CR 400 W. The driver of the motorcycle then lost control as the vehicle began to slide sideways.
 


The driver and the passenger were ejected from the motorcycle as the vehicle came to a stop on the south side of CR 1100 N.

A passenger – Amber L. Barton, 35, of Columbia City – was pronounced dead at the scene. The operator, who was not named, was taken to a local hospital. Police believe drugs or alcohol were a factor in the accident.



Neither rider was wearing a helmet. The Huntington County coroner said “a helmet would have likely prevented this death.”
