Motorcyclist dead after crash near Indiana truck stop

Muncie, IN (March 10, 2026) - A Delaware County man was killed on the evening of Monday, March 9, in a crash on Indiana 28 in northwestern Delaware County. The crash, east of Interstate 69, was reported to Delaware County emergency dispatchers at 9:38 p.m.

The accident involved a motorcycle and a semi. Gary Vannatta, Delaware County chief deputy coroner, later identified the victim as Brennan Lee Rhoades, 35, of rural Selma, Indiana. According to Chief Deputy Jeff Stanley of the Delaware County Sheriff's Department, the semi-tractor trailer was eastbound on the state highway and began turning north into the Petro Travel Center, 14000 N. Ind. 28.

As the semi made the turn, it "entered the path of the westbound motorcycle," operated by Rhoades, which then struck the trailer. Rhoades was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi, "a female from North Carolina," is "cooperating with investigators," Stanley said. A third vehicle, eastbound on Indiana 28, reported possible contact with debris in the highway.

The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff's crash reconstruction team.
