The accident involved a motorcycle and a semi. Gary Vannatta, Delaware County chief deputy coroner, later identified the victim as Brennan Lee Rhoades, 35, of rural Selma, Indiana. According to Chief Deputy Jeff Stanley of the Delaware County Sheriff's Department, the semi-tractor trailer was eastbound on the state highway and began turning north into the Petro Travel Center, 14000 N. Ind. 28.
As the semi made the turn, it "entered the path of the westbound motorcycle," operated by Rhoades, which then struck the trailer. Rhoades was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi, "a female from North Carolina," is "cooperating with investigators," Stanley said.
A third vehicle, eastbound on Indiana 28, reported possible contact with debris in the highway.
The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff's crash reconstruction team.
