Motorcyclist Killed in New Albany Crash

New Albany, IN (May 30, 2021) - A 23-year-old man riding a motorcycle was killed Saturday afternoon in a crash in New Albany, according to police.

New Albany Police Chief Todd Bailey said in a news release that emergency crews responded about 1:34 p.m. Saturday to a reported crash involving a car and motorcycle on Corydon Pike near Eagle Lane.

Officers found a Kia Soul and Yamaha motorcycle that had been involved in a crash.

The rider of the motorcycle, 23-year-old Christopher Cupp, was taken to University of Louisville Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead as a result of injuries suffered in the crash, according to Bailey.

The driver of the Kia was taken to Baptist Health Floyd with non-life-threatening injuries, Bailey added.

Investigators have not determined the cause of the crash but believe the Kia was turning from Eagle Lane onto Corydon Pike while the motorcycle was headed north on Corydon Pike at a "high rate of speed," Bailey said.
