Man Killed in Motorcycle Crash Near Muncie

Muncie, IN (April 8, 2021) - A man from Modoc, Indiana was killed late Wednesday afternoon when his motorcycle collided with a semi truck on U.S. 35 southeast of Muncie. Rick Howell of the Delaware County Coroner said Matthew Ansin, age 26, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, in the 7700 block of South U.S. 35, north of Delaware County Road 500-S.

According to sergeant Stash Hellis, of the Delaware County Sheriff's Department, the motorcyclist was southbound when he crossed the center line and collided with the northbound semi truck around 5:30 p.m. Police pointed out that he was not wearing a helmet. The semi driver, whose name was not available, was not injured.

Efforts were made to resuscitate the Ansin, and there were discussions in the immediate wake of the crash about having a medical helicopter fly to the scene. Scanner traffic indicated shortly before 5:50 p.m., authorities at the scene asked that Howell be notified.

The coroner said an autopsy would likely be conducted Thursday at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
